Labor Day is for Sales

I've been super pretty good at watching my clothing budget. For the past few months, I've exercised discipline constantly, even walking through the Target clothing section without making a purchase. (Seriously, that's hard!)

But I'll make an exception for deals that are way too good to pass up, especially for classics that look more expensive than they are. And this morning, exceptions were made for the Old Navy Labor Day sale.

I mean, how can you say no to cute, timeless pieces like this:

And this is perfect for work and play:

And the perfect amount of sparkle:

Use the code SPREE this weekend for 30% off site-wide. I know I'm gushing, but I promise I'm in no way affiliated with Old Navy, I just love sharing a good deal!

What do you "splurge" for?

Finding the Right Swimsuit

{Photo: Pinterest}

Halfway through July and I'm writing about finding a swimsuit? Well, whether you were waiting for the sales, or were invited to an impromptu pool party, or just haven't found the perfect suit yet, here are a few tips to take some of the frustration out of your search.

There is no such thing as the perfect swimsuit.
Take it from me- when it comes to swimwear, there's no such thing has having it all. A perfectly fitting suit might not come in your favorite color, and if you find a print that you can't live without, be prepared to take it in for a few alterations.

Don't be a penny pincher.
Most of us are on a budget, but swimwear is not the time to skimp. Spending a few extra dollars on a well-made suit won't only extend the life of your purchase, it will usually come with a more flattering fit and classic style.

Try on. Then try on some more.
There is probably nobody in the world that appreciates online shopping as much as I do. I hate, hate, hate trying on clothes. But when it comes to swimsuits, there is no substitute for trying them on. Set aside a few hours and hit the local mall. I've found that department stores are great first stops.

And last but not least...

Don't get discouraged! The right suit is waiting for you, now go find it :)

Jean Seberg [Style Icon]

{Photos: 1 | 2}

If there was ever a poster woman for cool, effortless Parisian chic, it  was Jean Seberg in Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 film À bout de souffle, or Breathless. With a disregard for rules complemented by her closely cropped cheveux, her iconic ensembles gave classic a new definition. Here are just a few of the pieces I imagine living in Ms. Seberg's closet...

Sexy Librarian for Spring [The Look]

I got a brand new red pencil skirt in the mail yesterday (lazy bums like me buy most everything online), and of course couldn't wait to wear it to work today. I threw on a few pieces already in my closet, pulled my hair into a top knot, and donned my favorite Warby Parker specs. The pop of color in my skirt kept me in a smiling mood most of the day, and when I met a friend for tea this evening, she remarked, "You've got this whole sexy librarian thing going on!" Here are a few examples to help you build your own sexy librarian look this spring...Old Navy linen blazer / Warby Parker Sinclair eyeglasses / Oasis pencil skirt / Sears oxford shoes / Sandro striped sweater / Kate Spade handbag.

Small Pleasures

Sometimes it's the little things in life that make all the difference, like a pop of pink, or a day spent wining it up with friends.

Desperately Seeking the Perfect Coat [Green With Envy]

Universal life truth: When you really, really want something, you can never find it. Take the kelly green coat that's like a big gaping hole in my closet. Sure, Talbots had one last year. Asos had some perfect ones that are all sold out. Adorable and affordable Old Navy option? So 2008. Can someone please explain why, if something is so trendy, it is so hard to find? Or am I that behind the curve?

Animal Instinct

These are my new leopard flats. Aren't they divine? I had been looking for a pair of leopard flats for a while, more along the ballet flat line, but I was inspired by The College Prepster's recent post about leopard-print loafers. Menswear meets animal print meets preppy? I was in love. I found this pair from Nordstrom; the price was right, and I couldn't be more happy with them. I have to control myself not to wear them every other day :)

What are your new favorites for fall?
